Let's write to congress (www.congress.org):
Dear Representative:
Regarding the red-herring and false allegation that the Catholic Church is "as bad" as Islam:
The Catholic church was actually founded by Jesus himself, unlike the Protestant churches which were founded by those who split from the Catholic hierarchy. Peter was the first Pope, the first Catholic council is recorded in the Bible, and when Peter died the other Apostles chose his replacement, as the Archbishops (who replaced the Apostles) have chosen the Popes ever since. Even though there is a hierarchy, and throughout history there were those power-hungry sinners who used the Church for personal gain, the Catholic faith has never advocated torturing, raping, pillaging/plundering, and subjugating and/or forcibly converting non-Catholics. The worst that the Catholic faith condones is to be excommunicated from the Church and denied the sacraments (i.e., Communion, marriage) until repentance. For example, the Crusades may have included military excesses, but they were essentially defensive wars by volunteers against decades of Islamic conquest and oppression. There was no crusade in Africa (like in Darfur) during the genocidal Islamic takeover, we just let it happen.
As for the law in the U.S., the First Amendment prohibition from "establishment" of religion was meant to prevent one denomination or religion from domination of the others by governmental action. The rest of that sentence prohibits the government from barring people from exercising their faith. U.S. law is meant to be ethical, regarding acceptable/unacceptable social behavior, only. The law is not moral law and the police are not morality police. Indeed, for the Christians who drafted the Constitution, the angels were the morality police and God was the morality Judge. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are meant to be the foundation of the inalienable rights of humans (given by God at their creation) as reasonable people. That is why the standard of U.S. law is reasonableness, what a reasonable person would think or do. That is why we need to reinforce our Constitution and Bill of Rights as the foundation of our legal system and ban Sharia law which merely enforces Islam.
