Marketplace "Fairness"

Let's write to Congress!  (http://www.contactingthecongress.org/)

Dear Representative of We the People:

In yet another step toward the "change" to Socialist/Communist control, Representative Steve Womack (AR) has introduced the Marketplace Fairness Act (H.R. 684, http://speier.house.gov/images/Legislation/mfa_113hr684.pdf).  It would require Internet sellers who gross more than $1 M (to begin with no doubt) to pay state and local sales and use taxes (i.e., everything they sell and everything they use) in all of the localities which have such taxes.  In states like Montana, which balances its budget and is not grappling for any and all funds, this Bill could damage its business competition and make business owners liable for the taxes of potentially all other states (What state would not take advantage of more and easy revenue?).  The Act neither prohibits or causes states to impose other taxes/regulations/licenses or audit/monitor remote sellers, but then the door would be open for it.  In fact, the Bill states its purpose is "To restore States' sovereign rights to enforce state and local sales and use tax laws, and for other purposes." [Emphasis added]  In this time of economic hardship and when most businesses have an Internet presence in order to be competitive, what "other purposes" could there be to make businesses pay taxes and file tax returns for every state?  Soon the Obama Administration will be claiming they need to bail out and then take over all business in the United States!  It would be better for the country to penalize legislators for not balancing state (and federal) budgets and to prevent the IRS from encroaching on State business, the Federal Government having jurisdiction over interstate matters.  Stop this totalitarian encroachment and vote against the Marketplace Fairness Act.
